Country Focus: Austria

Film Institute grants over €3.3m to eight projects


- At its second 2009 funding allocation session, the Austrian Film Institute awarded over €3.3m to eight feature film projects. The committee, which included director Erwin Wagenhofer (We Feed the World [+see also:

), selected five narrative works and three documentaries.

Selected narrative features include Harald Sicheritz’s comedy 3faltig, starring Christian Tramitz (MR Film in co-production with German company Falcom Media); Reinhard Schwabenitzky’s road movie Furcht und Zittern, in which an agoraphobic man who manages to leave his apartment after many years is taken hostage (produced by Helmut Grasser for Allegro Film); Christoph Stark’s Für immer und ewig - Grete und Georg Trakl (Eclypse Film in co-production with Germany’s Film Line Film and France’s Zen Productions); Peter Patzak’s Kottan - Rien ne va plus, starring Lukas Resetarits (Satel Film); and David Schalko’s Wie man leben soll, adapted from a novel by Thomas Glavinic (Dor Film in co-production with Denmark’s Zentropa).

The three chosen documentaries are Klaus Reisinger’s Life Size Memories, which traces a photographer’s journey across the Asian jungle, as he goes in search of elephants (R2 Films); Thomas Macho’s Feuer und Schwert im Sudan - Slatin Pascha (produced by Markus Fischer for Fischer Film); and Wings of Glory: The History of Air Racing, which is directed and produced by Thomas Rilk and looks at the first air race at the start of the 20th century.
