A positive progress report for the Franco-Portuguese co-production support fund

- The first assessment of the bilateral support fund for the co-production of Franco-Portuguese works, which was officially created at Cannes last year by the CNC and the ICA, has proved to be very favourable. Out of the 21 projects that were contenders during the first session at the end of 2014, seven received backing, including three that have already generated quite a buzz: Notre Folie by Joao Viana, which has been selected for the upcoming Cinéfondation Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival (read the news – a minority French co-production, through Les Films de l’Après-Midi), Cosmos [+see also:

film profile] by Salomé Lamas (produced by O Some E A Furia together with Shellac Sud, and which also recently received backing from Eurimages).
“Less than a year after it was signed, our support fund, which was devised to be a lever to nurture the sense of solidarity between European film industries, is already bearing fruit,” gushed Frédérique Bredin, president of the CNC. “One of our priorities in 2015 is to respond to the ever-growing demand for projects of a very high quality.”
For 2014, the fund’s budget amounted to €1 million (€800,000 of which came from the CNC and €200,000 from the ICA).
For the record, the other titles selected during the first session are the majority Portuguese productions Le convoi de sel et de sucre by Licino Azevedo (French co-production: Les Films de l'étranger), L’ornithologue [+see also:
