Poland and India sign co-production agreement

Poland and India sign co-production agreement

- co-production agreement. It's Poland's fourth agreement of the kind after those it signed with France, Israel, and Canada.

Signed for five years by Ambika Soni (the Indian minister of information and broadcasting) and Bogdan Zdrojewski (the Polish minister for culture and national heritage), the agreement defines a legal framework for film and television co-productions, with an emphasis on animation and documentaries. Its more explicit targets include improving collaboration between producers, distributors, and film promoters in both countries. The films that are co-produced via the agreement will have the status of national productions in both Poland and India. The agreement also covers financial contributions, award sharing modalities, and all other issues to do a film's exportation.

Given the Indian film industry's potential, the agreement is great news for Polish professionals. It will no doubt facilitate access not only to the Indian market but also to all territories where the Indian film industry holds influence.

Indian produces up to 1,000 films a year, while Poland produces about 40. Admissions in India are also quite dizzying with over 4 billion admissions a year. Every day, Indian cinemas record about 12 million admissions, which is about third of Poland's figures for a whole year (38.7 million admissions in 2011)!
