Enterspace introduces Sweden’s largest VR centre

Swedish virtual reality (VR) company Enterspace has announced the opening of Sweden’s largest VR centre in Stockholm in the autumn of 2017. According to the company, the Enterspace VR centre will cover an area of 900 m2 and will offer unique location-based experiences.

The company states that Enterspace Stockholm will feature VR roaming “pods”, where visitors can move around freely inside. In these spaces, the visitors will wear wireless, lightweight backpacks that use motion and tracking sensors. This will give the participants the opportunity to enjoy an interactive group experience, and will also enhance the character of the social experience at a meeting point where they can also explore the world of VR. Of course, there will also be experiences in a seated VR cinema in addition to content that will not be available for at-home entertainment. The centre will be powered by Enterspace’s parent company, Starbreeze, and will use StarVR virtual reality headsets.

Enterspace, which was founded in early 2016, has recently been acquired by Starbreeze AB, an independent creator, publisher and distributor of entertainment products, for a total of 20 million SEK (just over €2 million). The company is headquartered in Stockholm and has a team of developers, concept artists, engineers and marketers. Enterspace’s main aims are the creation of large-scale, location-based VR experiences and the establishment of VR centres in central locations around the world; both will offer a more approachable form of entertainment to the public.

Staffan Klashed, CEO and founder of Enterspace, stresses, “We offer the best VR technology available today – but technology is only our means. It’s the experience that’s our focus. Every VR experience we create will make a lasting impression on the visitor – whether it’s a thought, a discovery or a feeling. We’re creating true experience centres.”

For that reason, the Stockholm VR centre will open with Enterspace’s debut experience, Ringwalker, a futuristic space adventure where the narration allows viewers to interact with both the virtual and the real world as they move around their pods. Soon, the company will expand its in-house productions to include the full catalogue of Starbreeze VR experiences. It should be noted that Starbreeze has also initiated a partnership with IMAX and aims to provide the StarVR headsets to IMAX VR centres, the first of which opened in Los Angeles in January 2017.
