The South of France attracts productions with various incentives to commit to green film production. The Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (PACA) region provides film professionals with sustainability development training and technical support before and after production.

Between 2010 and 2013, PACA offered producers a green incentive that is unique in the European film funding landscape. Film projects supported by the region received additional support of up to €50,000 if they signed up for the sustainability deal. Altogether, 36 productions took advantage of this green incentive, among them not only short films and documentaries but also internationally renowned feature films that included Les neiges du Kilimandjaro [+see also:

“The financial support is now over, but the region wants to continue working in favor of green shooting with the assistance of PRIMI (Transmedia Mediterranean Cluster)”, says Chantal Fischer, Director of the Cinema and Audiovisual Department at the PACA region. The Sustainability Development Training Program for local professionals in Nice and Marseille, which got started in 2013, will be held there once again. The program includes a workshop on stage lighting as well as sustainability training sessions for stage managers and production managers.

Participants in this accelerated course get a green shooting suitcase which includes an eco-friendly shoulder-bag, sustainable plastic cups from different manufacturers, as well as an educational package for green shooting with Best Practices fact sheets, a sustainable development guide, and an USB flash drive packed with useful background information.

PACA and PRIMI have settled on their next green mission for 2014. Every production that received financial support from the region will become part of their awareness program. “We are going to raise the awareness of all actors on every film set”, Fischer goes on to say. “We will give them our new tool: The green shooting suitcase.”
