JULIAN SCHNABEL: A PRIVATE PORTRAIT
synopsis
Julian Schnabel – painter, director (including "Basquiat", "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"), musician, sculptor, member of the New York art scene. The documentary is not an analysis of a great artist, but a life story from a friend and admirer who wants to tell the world the greatness of a man who embodies the American Dream. Schnabel shares his thoughts on his life as a person and an artist, recounting the beginnings of his career in New York in the 1980s when he became a leading figure in the Neo-Expressionism movement. Commentary is provided by friends and family: Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, David La Chapelle, Willem Dafoe, Bono, Laurie Anderson and many others. This kaleidoscopic blend includes material from the personal archives of one of the most fascinating and provocative mavericks of contemporary art.
