The two brothers Carmelo and Salvatore La Marca, who were founders of a ramshackle Sicilian production company "Trinacria Cinematografica" in the 1950s, following pressure from a Cardinal, decide to go back to their old activity and make an ambitious film: "Il ritorno di Cagliostro". In order to make it successful, they recruit an American star who has a noble past, Errol Douglas, a former star who has fallen to drinking and tries to rebuild an artistic career by accepting the proposal from the two brothers.
