GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT
by Namik Kabil
synopsis
In present-day Sarajevo, in a large furniture shop, two night watchmen take turns to check the different floors and get ready to spend the night, carrying out the usual guard patrols and exchanging thoughts about their private life. Mehir has been married for three years and hasn't had any children yet. However, his stomach pains bear a curious resemblance to pregnancy sickness. Brizla, who is in charge of the bathroom department, is obsessed with his diet. The person living opposite the shop is a war veteran who can't sleep; he calls the police and demands that they come to the scene and, using a megaphone, vents his anxieties and recriminations before the deserted street. When morning arrives, certain problems – which during the night seemed unsolvable – appear less serious.
