Malek Bensmaïl
Born in 1966 in Constantine, Algeria, Malek Bensmaïl studied film in Paris and Saint Petersburg. In 1996 he made the documentary Territoire(s), and subsequent titles included Des vacances malgré tout (2001) and Aliénations (2004) which won the Prix du Patrimoine de l’Immatériel and the Prix des bibliothèques, respectively at the Festival Cinéma du Réel. In 2009 he directed La Chine est encore loin which was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes.
