Shooting started in Saxony-Anhalt at the end of April and will last until early June on the medieval thriller Black Death, by UK director Christopher Smith (Creep [+see also:

The film stars Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings), alongside Dutch actress Carice van Houten (Valkyrie) and UK actors Eddie Redmayne (The Other Boleyn Girl [+see also:

film profile]) and Andy Nyman (Severance [+see also:

film profile]). The director, a specialist in the horror genre, goes back to the Middle Ages and explores the mystery of a village that remains strangely intact while the rest of the country is decimated by a violent plague epidemic.

Black Death is co-produced in Germany by Jens Meurer (for Egoli Tossell Film) and in the UK by Phil Robertson (Zephyr Films) and Robert Bernstein (Ecosse Films). The title will be released on German screens in 2010.
