FESTIVALS Germany

Munich reports good results and record attendance

by

The 27th Munich Film Festival (June 26-July 4), which closed this weekend, reached a new attendance record, with around 73,500 admissions sold. This figure represents an increase of around 10,000 (15%) compared to last year and 8,000 more than in 2007, when the previous record was set.

Right from the opening day, viewers flocked to the event in droves and tickets quickly sold out for most screenings of the 214 films in the line-up, even in the case of lesser-known directors. According to festival director Andreas Ströhl, this "proves that viewers trust our choices".

Ströhl, and all the festival guests, appreciated the audiences’ curiosity, intelligence and enthusiasm. Ströhl commented: "People are starting to realise that we have extraordinary audiences here".

The 28th edition of the Munich festival will be held from June 25-July 3, 2010.
