Hugo In Africa honoured at Venice

At the 66th Venice International Film Festival, Swiss-Italian director Stefano Knuchel’s documentary Hugo In Africa was awarded the Golden Bisato for Best Director by the independent jury of film critics.

The film retraces the African travels of comic book author Hugo Pratt and the close links he maintained with this continent, in particular Ethiopia.

Knuchel gained the confidence of Cong SA, the company with exclusive rights to the work of Corto Maltese creator Pratt, and had access to unseen audiovisual archive material.

This is the first instalment in a quadrilogy on the work and life of the Italian-born author who died in Switzerland in 1995 at the age of 68. He appeared in a few films, including Leos Carax’s Bad Blood, alongside Juliette Binoche.
