Double honours for Hillside Crowd at Namur

At the Namur International Francophone Film Festival in Belgium, Swiss director Berni Goldblat’s The Hillside Crowd picked up two accolades: the Special Jury Prize (worth €10,000 in post-production funding) and the SCAM and Namur Region Audience Award for Best Documentary (worth €3,000).

Produced by Switzerland’s MirFilms, France’s Cinédoc Films and Burkina Faso’s Les Films du Djabadjah, The Hillside Crowd depicts the daily life of inhabitants in a makeshift town created around the gold mine on Diosso Hill, in Burkina Faso. Gold washers, merchants, prostitutes and healers have left everything behind to come and try their luck in the search for the precious metal.
