Von Trier, Lanners and Hansen-Love get backing from Arte France Cinéma

by

Four feature film projects were selected at the second 2010 session of Arte France Cinéma, who will offer co-production support and pre-acquisitions.

Projects include two titles by European directors from outside France. Melancholia by Denmark’s Lars von Trier (co-produced by France’s Slot Machine) is a disaster film piloted by Zentropa, which may star Charlotte Gainsbourg and be shot in Sweden in July-August.

, Mia Hansen-Love will shoot Un Amour de Jeunesse (“A Youthful Love”) this summer. Produced by Les Films Pelléas, the film will explore young girls’ quest for freedom through the amorous experiences of Camille (Lola Créton).

Meanwhile, documentary filmmaker Cyril Mennegun will start shooting his debut narrative feature Louise Wimmer (Zadig Productions) in June. It tells the story of a 48-year-old woman (Corinne Masiero) who lives in her car and whose only aim is to find an apartment and start from scratch.

Moreover, the January session of Arte France Cinéma selected two projects. The first, Patricia Mazuy’s Sport de Filles (“Girls’ Sport”, produced by Maïa Cinéma and Lazennec) will plunge into the world of competitive horse training and the financial stakes involved, through the experiences of a horse rider played by Marina Hands.

The second is Delphine and Muriel Coulin’s debut feature 17 filles (“17 Girls”, produced by Archipel 35), in which 17 teenage girls from the same high school in a little seaside town make an unexpected decision that will change their lives. The two above-mentioned films will be shot next summer and autumn.
