Divorce from Studio Canal

- Wild Bunch, which specialises in international film sales and acquisitions, leaves it's home base to become independent

Wild Bunch, the international sales and acquisitions arm of StudioCanal, are branching out on their own with a new independent company and a new name. Wild Bunch was set up in 1999 and is headed by Vincent Maraval and right from its inception, the company distinguished itself in the French sales market for the ability with which it discovered new talent and titles, the most recent of which are L’auberge espagnol, Irréversible and Demonlover. Richard Lenormand, the president of StudioCanal, said that the parting of the ways was amicable and indeed a logical progression given that Wild Bunch had been developing independently and in complete autonomy for some time. Brahim Chioua who resigned as the DG of StudioCanal this summer, will be joining the new company and the indications are that the new Wild Bunch will soon enter the production arena. Richard Lenormand took this opportunity to deny the rumours of StudioCanal’s imminent dismantling, and spoke about the company’s plans for the future. He said the company would once more be focusing on auteur-driven productions from its three « in-house » producers (Alain Sarde, Richard Grandpierre and Alain Goldman) and that he would be reorganising StudioCanal’s distribution arm at the end of September.
