Sweet victory for Amer at CPH: PIX

The CPH: PIX festival in Copenhagen closed last Saturday with an awards ceremony that saw Belgian duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani walk away with the New Talent Grand PIX and its very handsome cash prize of €50,000 for their debut film Amer [+see also:

, for having been “executed with bloody-minded precision and a brave sense of cinema's capacity for reinvention.”

The final jury – which chose from among 13 feature debuts – comprised British director Peter Strickland (winner of last year’s Grand PIX award), US producer Jon Ngyuen and Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen, who replaced Mexican director Amat Escalante and UK producer Finola Dwyer, who could not travel because of last week’s ash cloud over Northern Europe that prevented several guests from attending CPH: PIX.
