Warsaw in 3D

by

Fondly known as the "Paris of the North" before the Second World War during which 85% of the city was destroyed, the Polish capital of Warsaw is in the process of reconstructing itself – in 3D. In one of the graphic design studios of the city, for the past two years a devoted team have been making a film which is in effect a reconstruction of Warsaw as it was in 1935.

"The first taxis, gas lighting, the roads, fashion and beauty icons, the most distinguished men and women. Theatres, cinemas, art and film. This era overflowing with vigorous visions in terms of technical solutions was marked by incredible progress, while at the same time resembling our own era in several ways," points out the film’s director, Tomasz Gomoła.

Presenting a day in the life of the capital in 1935, Varsaw 1935 is made up of three parts each corresponding to a specific area. "For the 3D decor, what demanded a lot of effort was collecting documents, recreating a architectonic forms and the atmosphere, all of that only from photos," explains Tomasz Gomoła.

Theatrical release for the first part of Varsaw 1935 is scheduled for this autumn, while the film’s producers, Newborn, are working on second and third parts due for release in 2011.
