Minister summons producers

Spain’s minister for culture, Pilar del Castillo called an urgent meeting of the national Federation of Audiovisual Producers’ Association (FAPAE), the day after the latter met to discuss the crisis that is enveloping the film industry.
The participants included José Marìa Otero, the director of the Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute, FAPAE president, Eduardo Campoy and producers Andrés Vicente Gòmez, Enrique Cerezo, Gerardo Herrero and Fernando Garcillán.
The issues on the agenda included the cuts to the Fund for the Protection of Spanish cinema, the distribution of domestic productions and the growing need to monitor Spanish TVs to ensure that they fulfil their legal obligations to the industry by investing 5 per cent of their profits in European audiovisual production. A review into increasing tax breaks for those who invest in film production (it currently stands at 5 per cent) was also announced.
