High Point scales Wicker Tree

by

High Point Films has snapped up world sales rights, excluding the US, Canada and the UK, for The Wicker Tree, Robin Hardy’s companion film to his cult 1973 hit The Wicker Man.

Hardy reteams with his original producer, Peter Snell of British Lion Entertainment, with producer Peter Watson-Wood and executive producer Alastair Gourlay for Tressock Films joining in.

The Wicker Tree is set between Texas and a remote Scottish village island similar to the first film. Sir Christopher Lee, whose pagan laird in The Wicker Man is part of British movie folklore, is in the cast, which includes Graham McTavish (The Hobbit) and Clive Russell (Ladies in Lavender [+see also:

). Hardy adapted the screenplay from his novel Cowboys for Christ that follows a community of pagan enthusiasts who light a welcome fire for two fresh-faced evangelists from the US played by newcomers, Britannia Nicol and Henry Garrett.

High Point Managing Director Carey Fitzgerald said, “While staying true to the distinctive spirit of The Wicker Man, this is a film that stands up in its own right and should attract new audiences as well as those familiar with the original classic.”

High Point will be presenting the film in Cannes.
