The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has signed a partnership with the Fundashon Bon Intenshon foundation to organise a film festival in Curaçao, one of the isles of the former Dutch Antilles, next year. The agreement was signed on Tuesday.

The four-day event, titled Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam, will take place from Thursday March 29 through Sunday April 1. The main location of the festoval will be The Cinemas, a new six-screen multiplex in the Otrabanda area of Willemstad, the island’s capital and biggest town.

The programme of the festival will consist of some 20 films, with an emphasis on Caribbean and Latin-American work taken from the IFFR 2012 line-up, as well as some newer work. Directors are expected to be in attendance for post-screening Q&A sessions, just like at IFFR. The programme will comprise not only feature films but also documentaries and shorts.

IFFR director Rutger Wolfson commented in a statement: “It is our pleasure to be organising Curaçao IFFR together with Fundashon Bon Intenshon; a great initiative which will expand the range of culture available in Willemstad. The festival wishes to inspire cinemagoers and young talented filmmakers from around the region. To the IFFR, this represents a welcome addition to the international activities the festival uses to draw attention to the films it screens and actively supports”.

Fundashon Bon Intenshon was founded on Curaçao in 1990 and supports projects in fields such as education, culture, sports, poverty alleviation and tourism both on the island and elsewhere. Projects are selected on the basis of social and societal commitment.
