Controcampo Italiano expands to include shorts and docs

The Controcampo Italiano section of the Venice Film Festival, which is dedicated to new trends in Italian cinema and was relaunched in 2009, is expanding its programme to include shorts and documentaries. Starting with the forthcoming 68th edition (August 31-September 10), it will present seven narrative features, seven shorts and seven documentaries, all in world premiere and in competition in their respective categories.

The Controcampo Italiano jury, headed this year by film director Roberta Torre, will present the Controcampo Award for narrative features, the Controcampo Award for short films and the Controcampo Doc Award for documentaries, with no shared prizes allowed.

It is testimony to the fertile creativity currently taking place in Italian cinema in all its forms: "In recent years, the Venice festival has always tried to be in tune with the underlying currents and visible and invisible waves in world cinema", said the fest’s artistic director Marco Müller.

"The revival of a section like Controcampo Italiano is a consequence of this attention and mission to present and offer narratives in the making, ongoing projects, and the search for potential storylines in Italian film narrative".
