Danish 3D animated Barbarian joins Fantastic Fest in Sitges

Launched domestically by Nordisk Film Distribution last week, Danish directors Torbjørn Christoffersen, Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen and Philip Einstein Lipski’s Ronal The Barbarian - the first 3D feature from Danish animation studio – will have its first international presentation at the 44th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (Catalonia, Spain - October 6-16), before it will be promoted at the American Film Market (November 2-9).

“In Los Angeles we will show it to the more than 20 international distributors who have pre-bought the film,” managing director Tine Klint, of Danish international sales boutique, LevelK. Major territories which have acquired Ronal The Barbarian include Germany, France, Russia-CIS-the Baltics, most of East Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, India and China.

Scripted by Christoffersen, and produced by Trine Hedegaard for Einstein Film, the film follows a young barbarian with low self-esteem, a pageboy haircut and twig-like arms, who saves the clan from the evil Lord Volcazar who is in the neighborhood. Anders Juul, Preben Christensen, Lars Mikkelsen and Lars Bom have lent local voices to the tribe.

The universe of the barbarians can be further explored in an illustrated book, the soundtrack and a free application with a game play (ITunes’ app store). US film and rock stars Pierce Cravens, Ben Bledsoe, Ashley Acarino, Dee Snider and Louis Lombardi have delivered the speak for the American-dubbed version which was produced in New York.

Most recently LevelK has added Finnish director Zaida Bergroth’s second feature, The Good Son [+see also:

, to its sales catalogue. Screening in Toronto’s Discovery section, the Misha Jaari, Mark Lwoff and Elli Toivoniemi production for Bufo is one of the five nominées for the Nordic Council Film Prize, Scandinavia’s largest film award.
