Lost Land picks up main award in Jihlava

The 15th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (October 25-30) wrapped with awards in several competition strands, as well as East Silver Eye awards for films presented at the festival’s market.

In the Opus Bonum section for best world documentaries, the award went to Lost Land [+see also:

Georgian director Salome Jashi’s Bakhmaro won best film in the Between the Seas competition for films from Central and Eastern Europe.

In the Fascinations section for experimental documentaries, best film award went to Endeavour by Austria’s Johann Lurf.

In the national Czech Joy competition, Martin Mareček’s Solar Eclipse received the best film award. The film also took the Audience Award, as well as the East Silver Eye Award of the Institute of Documentary Film for best feature documentary.

Silver Eye Awards are given to best Central and Eastern European films finished in 2010 and 2011 and presented at the festival’s East Silver Market, and Crulic – The Path to Beyond by Anca Damian (Poland-Romania) won best mid-length film, while best short film went to I Will Forget This Day by Alina Rudnitskaya.

Among the projects pitched at the festival’s Forum for upcoming films, the IDFA Award, which provides access to IDFA Amsterdam’s co-production market went to Gangster of Love by Nebojša Slijepčević (Croatia-Romania). The Golden Funnel award for the project that has enjoyed the greatest development in the course of the past year went to The Bells of Happiness by Slovak filmmakers Marek Šulík and Jan Buček.

Legendary Italian director Vittorio De Seta received the honorary Contribution to World Cinema award.
