FESTIVALS Italy

Singapore showcases Italy

by

After a gap of several years, Italian cinema has returned to Singapore, a strategic point of entry to the all-important Asian market and one of the world’s pre-eminent distribution circuits that imports over 800 films every year. It is estimated that each of Singapore’s 4 milllion inhabitants goes to the cinema just over 3 times per year.

Organised by the Singapore Film Society with help from Italia Cinema and the Italian Institute of Culture, the Italian Film Festival will run from 13-19 March and includes nine films, most of which by young directors.
"After a long silence during the 80s, Italian cinema has undergone a facelift and is experiencing a renaissance thanks to the work and long-sightedness of Italian producers. This year’s festival is meant as an acknowledgement and a tribute to their efforts,” said won of the organisers.
