20/04/2012 - Joël Vanhoebrouck brings together the very best of Flemish actors, including Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem (A Private View), for his first film Brasserie Romantiek

On April 11, the cameras started rolling on Brasserie Romantiek, an ensemble comedy set in an award-winning restaurant run by Pascaline (Sara De Roo) and her chef Angelo (Axel Daeseleire), where couples cross paths on the evening of Valentine’s Day. The final touches have been made to the menu, the knives are sharpened, and the tables are set, but still fate intervenes, and an evening that was supposed to be perfect becomes instead quite eventful. The film features the very best of Flanders’ actors, including Koen De Bouw, Filip Peeters, Barbara Sarafian, and Tine Embrechts, beside the actors mentioned above.

Brasserie Romantiek is part of the Faits Divers series, launched in 2003 by VTM and the VAF, behind films such as Moscow, Belgium [+see also:

film profile]) and whose next opus, Weekend an zee by Ilse Somers, will be out next week. Following the series’ editorial line, Joël Vanhoebrouck has chosen to make a genre film, here a romantic comedy, as his first feature, written and produced by Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem (Oxygen [+see also:

film profile]). Brasserie Romantiekis another Flemish film to make good use of the talent pool in the local television industry. While Joël Vanhoebrouck made a name for himself with successful television series like Code 37, most of his actors have also often appeared on Flemish television channels.

Brasserie Romantiek is produced by A Private View (Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem’s company) and co-produced by Artémis Productions, with the support of the VAF, the CCA, Wallimage-Bruxellimage, and the Tax Shelter. The film will be released in Belgium by Kinepolis on December 19.
