Stories of ordinary unemployment and extraordinary jobs are the focus of a quick and entertaining comedy out on Italian screens on May 11: Workers by Lorenzo Vignolo. This third feature film by this director, whose background is in music videos (he has directed over a hundred of them for major Italian bands), is a film divided in episodes, whose subtitle, Prepared for Whatever it Takes, speaks volumes. The three stories told in fact feature three young unemployed people who, to make a living, accept the most undesirable jobs. And any link with the current reality is totally deliberate.

Giacomo (Alessandro Tiberi) finds himself working as a carer for a disabled person, Mario Spada (Francesco Pannofino, photo), who is unbearable, to say the least: vulgar, a callous poker player who loves his vodka, he insults him, sends him to buy cocaine and forces him to come with him looking for prostitutes. Italo (Dario Bandiera) works on a cattle farm: his job is to collect seed specimens for genetic sampling - in other words, he masturbates bulls - but he makes his girlfriend Tania (Daniela Virgilio), a fan of TV series Dr House, believe that he is a great surgeon. Alice (Nicole Grimaudo) dreams of being a film and theatre make-up artist, but the only job she can find is that of doing the make-up on corpses for a funeral home, and to supplement that she accepts an offer from Saro (Paolo Briguglia), the son of a family of Mafiosi, to play the part of his dead wife in public occasions, given the extraordinary semblance.

"I didn't want to put forward a thesis. Each episode explores a different attitude towards work and employees: there are those who throw in the towel and those who resist", states the director, who reveals that he used real unemployed people for the interview scenes at the temping agency. The thread that links these three stories is in fact the agency, the "Workers", which provided these strange postings. The owners Sandro and Filippo (the comedians Alessandro Bianchi and Michelangelo Pulci) relate the most incredible stories to come out of it, with which they even entertain two beautiful girls over dinner. To then discover that, at the statement that "everyone needs to work after all", the two women too are, at that moment, "at work".
