Dominik Graf returns to feature film with a love triangle

by

- The director from Munich celebrated his 60th birthday on set of Die geliebten Schwestern, in which Hannah Herzsprung plays one of two sisters seduced by the same poet, Friedrich Schiller

Since the end of August, Dominik Graf has once again been shooting a feature film for the big screen: Die geliebten Schwestern (lit. "The beloved sisters"). Between the directing classes he gives in Cologne and his many works for television (including the award-winning series Im Angesicht des Verbrechens about the Russian mafia in Berlin), the director from Munich, who turned sixty a few days ago, had not entirely disappear from the big screen – he took part in the excellent ensemble film Deutschland'09, 13 kurze Filme zur Lage der Nation [+see also:

and in the tryptic Dreileben along with Christian Petzold and Christoph Hochhäusler –, but he hadn't made a feature film on his own since 2002 (A Map of the Heart) and 2006 (The Red Cockatoo).

Die geliebten Schwestern, a project for which he wrote the screenplay, recounts a particular love story at the end of the 18th century, that of the unusual love triangle made up by the poet Friedrich Schiller (played by Florian Stetter) and the Lengefeld sisters: the fervent Caroline (Hannah Herzsprung), trapped in an unhappy marriage, and the tender Charlotte (Henriette Confurius), a beautiful soul whom he ends up marrying without ever forgetting her sister.

After Thuringia, filming is set to continue in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, around Münster in Rhenania-North-Westphalia, and in Tyrol. Schiller and his lovers’ story is produced by the influential Uschi Reich for Bavaria, who has been interested in this historical story for several years, in co-production with television channels WDR, BR, Degeto andArte, as well as Wega Film Vienne, WS Filmproduktion, Kiddinx Filmproduction, and Senator, who is to release the film in German cinemas next year.
