Bier awarded for Creative Excellence by Iceland's president in his home

(2010) received both the Golden Globe and the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Feature, was honoured by the Creative Excellence Award by the 9th Reykjavik International Film Festival, which last year screened 110 films on 13 categories to 27,000 visitors – almost 10% of the country’s population (319,560).

Bier, who has three films in the programme, was presented with the prize by Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grímson at a ceremony at Bessastaðir, the presidential residence. Besides her latest romantic comedy, Love Is All You Need [+see also:

– which local distributor Greenlight will release on October 12 – the festival showed After the Wedding (2006) and Open Hearts (2002).

) on the list of honorary guests, the Reykjavik showcase - which runs through October 7 – has this year 12 international entries in the New Visions competition for first or second features, where the winner returns with the Golden Puffin.

Besides the Icelandic Film Days, organised with the Icelandic Film Centre, and an extensive sidebar of documentaries (33) from all over the world, the schedule includes Open Seas – which is selected among highlights from 2011's international festival circuit – a section of films dealing with ecological subjects, a Focus on Germany, and works by the three guests of honour, adding Austrian writer-director Sebastian Meise.
