Moodysson wants to make 'a happy film full of hope and vitality'

- Swedish director Lukas Moodysson starts principal photography for his seventh feature about three 12-13-year-old neglected girls roaming the streets of Stockholm

"This is a film for everyone who is 12 years old, who once was 12 years old, or who will soon be 12 years old," said Swedish director Lukas Moodysson (photo), currently shooting his seventh feature We are Best! at the Swedish regional film centre Film i Väst in Trollhättan. Also scripted by Moodysson, it will premiere in autumn 2013.

(2009), which was selected for competition in Berlin, the Fucking Åmål (1998) director is adapting his wife Coco Moodysson's graphic novel Never Goodnight for the screen with three newcomers in the leading roles: Mira Barkhammar, Mira Grosin and Liv LeMoyne.

Anna Rydgren, David Dencik, Johan Liljemark and Mattias Wiberg have joined the cast for the story of Bobo, Klara and Hedvig, three 12-13-year-old neglected girls who are brave and tough and strong and weak and confused and weird, and all have had to take care of themselves too early.

Roaming the streets of Stockholm, they decide to start a punk band, although they have no instruments, and everybody tells them that punk is dead. They are different, but they are friends, and in the end nothing compares to friendship, according to the director: "This is a happy film full of hope and vitality." Besides Trollhättan, the film will lense on locations in Stockholm, packaged by Moodysson's producer since Fucking Åmål, Memfis Film & TV's Lars Jönsson, with Film i Väst, Denmark's Zentropa Entertainments, and Swedish and Danish pubcasters SVT and DR. Swedish major Svensk Filmindustri AB, will handle local release and Denmark's TrustNordisk international sales.
