During its last session for aid to production, the National Film Fund selected two titles: Ibolya Fekete’s Mom and Other Loonies in the Family [+see also:

After first becoming noticed for her first two narrative features Bolche Vita (Best Film at the Hungarian Film Week in 1996 and an award among others at Angers in 1997) and Chico (Best Screenplay in Karlovy Vary in 2001), Ibolya Fekete is to start shooting Mom and Other Loonies in the Family next spring. The screenplay centres on a mother (to be played by Polish actress Danuta Szaflarska) who has lived for 94 years and has moved 27 times to escape trouble, danger, and conflict. In fact, it’s the history of the terrible 20th century that sent her all over the country. The tale is to be told with humour and exuberance. Produced by Cinema Film, the feature, to be co-produced by Germany (most probably Niko Film), Denmark, and Bulgaria, has been allocated €670,000 in support from the National Film Fund.

film profile], a box office hit in Hungary at the end of 2009, Dénes Orosz is now to shoot Coming Out starring Sándor Csányi. The film, produced by Gabor Kalomista, is to receive up to €1m from the National Film Fund. Written by the director, the screenplay follows Erik, a celebrity with his own radio show and a seat in Parliament. Proud to be gay, a courageous attitude in a homophobic country like Hungary, he defends the rights of homosexuals and is preparing his wedding in the Netherlands to his friend with whom he has lived for five years. But he soon has an accident and starts to feel unique feelings that will greatly complicate the situation...

The National Film Fund also handed out aid to screenwriting to György Pálfi and Zsófia Ruttkay for Szőke ciklon, Tamás Tóth for A hamisító, and András Szeredás for Ha hadvezér.

This year, the National Film Fund also supported the production of upcoming films by János Szász, Károly Ujj Mészáros, Gyula Nemes, Szablocs Hajdu, Márk Bodzsár, Ágnes Sós, and Ádám Császi.
