Film i Väst adds 40% to 2011 audiences for new record of 21 million admissions

(photo), which was launched on December 25 – is exceeding 580,000 admissions at the local box office, managing director Tomas Eskilsson has published the annual report with a new audience record: Swedish and international co-productions from the centre last year sold 21 million tickets, 40% up on 2011.

Owned by the region of Västra Götaland, with an annual turnover of €12 million, Film i Väst was involved in 15 local and nine international productions, and UK director James Watkins’ horror thriller The Woman in Black [+see also:

was credited with the lion’s share admissions, 14.6 million worldwide.

Adding to the financial results, productions from “one of Europe’s three most successful film enterprises,” per the ceo, were nominated for Oscars, European Film Awards, BAFTAS, Golden Globes, and won prizes in Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Toronto.
