Croatian Audiovisual Centre grants €2.16m to 12 feature films

- Out of €2,159,507 total, €267,959 goes to five minority co-productions. Another €978,790 has been allocated for short length films, and €410,036 goes to project and screenplay development

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) has announced the grants for film production, project development and script development in all categories and genres. 12 fiction and documentary feature length productions received a total of €2,159,507. Out of these, five are minority co-productions and they received €267,959. Another €978,790 has been allocated to 36 fiction, documentary, animated and experimental shorts, while €410,036 goes to project and screenplay development.

Among the three national fiction feature films awarded a total of €1,785,885, two are being produced by Kinorama: the omnibus High Sun,theseventh feature by writer-director Dalibor Matanić, and Danijel Kušan's Love or Death, the third part of the highly successful franchise based on series of popular children's novels. The second installment Mysterious Boy is currently in its 19th week of release, with 54,475 sold tickets. The third awarded film, Branko Schmidt’s Ivan’s Confirmation, produced by Telefilm, will complete the trilogy of the director’s collaboration with novelist and screenwriter Alen Bović, after Metastases and Vegetarian Cannibal.

Two Croatian minority co-production fiction features have received €98,458 each: Serbian director Srdjan Dragojević’s The Porcupine, based on the 1992 novel by Julian Barnes, and social drama Inferno [+see also:

These are the first grants since HAVC decided to spread applications for funds for audiovisual projects over the whole year. “Since we recently made this a permanent open call for bids, instead of once a year, we can now publish results two or more times a year. The next results will be made public in three months, before the Pula Film Festival,” said the head of HAVC Hrvoje Hribar.
