18/04/2013 - Claire Denis, Valeria Golino, Rebbeca Zlotowki and Alain Guiraudie are for now the only Europeans in a programme including five first feature films

As the reflexion of an ever more globalized cinematographic production, the programme of Un Certain Regard, an inherent part of the Official Selection of the 66th Festival de Cannes (from May 15th to 26th, 2013), was partially revealed today at lunchtime. Featuring a few resonating names (Sofia Coppola, Claire Denis, James Franco) and a "clandestine” film by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof, the Certain Regard 2013 nevertheless sets aside a very significant space for discoveries since first feature films currently constitute a third of the list (which will be completed in the coming weeks).

From the 15 feature films selected so far, only four are by European filmmakers. Italian actress Valeria Golino celebrates her first steps as a director by directly entering Cannes’s official selection with Miele [+see also:

As in the competition of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival (article), North America is very present at Un Certain Regard with five titles (three American films – including the winner of Sundance –, a Canadian film and a Mexican one), nevertheless overtaken by Asia and its six selected films (two Filipino movies, a Chinese one, a Cambodian film with Rithy Panh, an Iranian film and a Palestinian one). South America is however completely absent from the list.
