- David Trueba’s new feature film, starring Javier Cámara, is set in 1960s Spain during John Lennon’s stay in Almeria when he was shooting a film

Filming for Madrid-based director David Trueba’s new film has come to the end of its second week. Shooting for Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados (literally – Living is easy with eyes closed), started in Madrid and then moved straight to Almeria, where most of the story is set.

The cast is headed by Javier Cámara (photo), who has been omnipresent in Spanish cinema in the last few months, together with Natalia de Molina and Francesc Colomer and with the participation of illustrious actors like Jorge Sanz and Ariadna Gil.

The screenplay, written by La Trueba himself, tells the story of Antonio (Cámara), a teacher who uses Beatles songs to teach his students English in 1966 Spain. When he finds out that John Lennon is in Almeria making a film, he travels there to meet him. During the trip, he meets Juanjo (Colomer), a 16-year-old boy who has ran away from home and Belén (De Molina), a young 21-year-old woman who also looks like she is running away from something.

As the film’s producers explained, Lennon’s visit becomes the backdrop to a story in which the lives, dreams and worries of three people, each rebelling in their own way against 1960s Spain, interconnect.

Fernando Trueba, brother of the director and 1993 Oscar winner for Belle Époque, is producing the film through his production company Fernando Trueba P.C. together with TVE and Canal+.

Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados, which title is based on a sentence from Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever” (Living is easy with eyes closed), written by Lennon in Almeria, is Trueba’s sixth feature length film and follows acclaimed Madrid, 1987 [+see also:
