03/06/2013 - Nordisk Film Biografer - Denmark's leading cinema circuit - registered the best theatrical market since 1981, more than doubling the financial result of 2011

2012 was the year in which Denmark's theatres completed the digitization of 406 screens - a €40 million investment - and reached a record attendance of 14.4 million, up 16.1% on the previous year, said Kim Pedersen - chairman of Danish Cinemas, the exhibitors' trade association - in his annual report.

During the year the country's 106 cinemas, with 59,000 seats, generated a €117,2 million turnover (2011: 16.7%); Danish per capita attendance was 2.5 (No 4 in Europa, after France, the UK, Luxembourg), and local fare controlled 29% of total admissions (No 3, after France and the UK).

Tickets sales reached 6.1 million (up from 5.9 million in 2011), and the financial result was more than doubled from the previous year - €3.5 million against €1.5 million. "The outcome was satisfactory, with a fine growth in turnover, but also large investments in digitization and new cinemas," said Managing Director John Tønnes.

Nordisk Film Biografer opened a new and its 17^th Danish theatre, Biocity Næstved, in March 2012, and the company is planning a new multiplex in the Fields Shopping Centre at Copenhagen's Ørestaden, which will be ready in 2014. During the year the company purchased Norway's Oslo Kino, including 15 cinemas.
