Starting shot for Filmtank Audience

- Producer Thomas Tielsch launches new German distribution label for quality documentaries

Filmtank Audience is the name of the new distribution label that Hamburg-based producer Thomas Tielsch (photo) has launched,  so that he can theatrically release documentaries with societal and cultural relevance that also match the technical standards and cineaste style of a motion picture.

Filmtank Audience was founded in June 2013 as a sister company of the Filmtank Film und Medienproduktion in Hamburg. With his production outfit, Tielsch has already produced commercial successful documentaries such as Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten, Nichts ist besser als gar nichts and Das Venedig Prinzip.

The latest move is a reaction to the situation that the television doesn‘t get involved anymore in feature-length documentaries. "This is the reason why Filmtank has been focusing on film projects which have a potential for theatrical distribution. The launch of a distribution company is one more logical step towards more autonomy and flexibility in our core area, documentary films for theatrical release," emphasized Tielsch.

In the first place, Filmtank Audience is going to open Cesars Grill by Dario Aguirre on October 3, 2013 in Germany. In this documentary, the vegetarian filmmaker decides to move back from Germany to Ecuador in order to save the bankrupt grill restaurant of his father, who is an enthusiastic carnivore.
