Guy Myhill begins The Goob shoot

Feature debutant writer/director Guy Myhill has commenced a four-week shoot at Norfolk locations on The Goob. Set in the middle of a heat wave in England, the film follows 16-year-old Goob Taylor who helps his mother run a transport cafe and harvest the surrounding beet fields. When his mother takes up with a stock-car driver, Goob becomes an unwelcome hindrance. However, Goob’s world changes when exotic and flirtatious beet picker Eva arrives. Sean Harris (Prometheus), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil Retribution) and Hannah Spearritt (Primeval) lead the cast, with debutant Liam Springs (photo) as Goob Taylor.

The Goob is the first film to be made under iFeatures2, the second iteration of Creative England’s filmmaking scheme, in partnership with the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Fund, BBC Films and the Creative Budget Film Skills Fund. The film is budgeted at £415,000.

iFeatures2 Executive Producer Tristan Goligher said, “From a strong team of filmmakers with an excellent cast, The Goob promises to be a very special film. It will capture a slice of England that we’ve never seen on our cinema screens before.”

Chris Collins, Senior Executive in the BFI Film Fund, said, “Guy is a singular talent and The Goob promises to be a distinctive feature debut, taking its audience on an entertaining and ultimately uplifting journey into Norfolk’s raucous rural demimonde.”

Two other green-lit films under iFeatures2 – Spaceship and Norfolk – will go into production this year.
