Absent from the competition of the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival since 1997, Hungary returns for the 2013 edition (November 20 – December 1) with Stream of Love [+see also:

by Ágnes Sós. Filmed in a Romanian village, the film explores the sentimental and sexual adventures of an octogenarian man with the women in his village who reveal to the camera their most intimate thoughts and dreams. This deep emotional dive into their lives can be shocking at times because of its coarseness and it shows how the games of love and romance of a bygone era continue to prosper in this isolated rural world.

"I have been directing documentaries for 20 years and I know that the most difficult thing is to make a film about positive things, that is both witty and charming. That’s why documentary filmmakers are often accused of showing the dark side of life. The demand for films about politics, business, misery and suffering has caught up with art”, underlines Ágnes Sós. "But I decided to try to prove that there is still a zest of life and a positive attitude.”

Stream of Love was produced by HBO Hungary, DokuArt and Eclipse Film, with backing from the Hungarian National Film Fund (which last year signed a long term partnership with HBO in order to facilitate the production of feature length documentaries).
