Hopes are mounting for the Italian film in the running at this year’s Academy Awards. The Great Beauty has already been awarded a Golden Globe, four awards at the European Film Awards (best film, best actor for Toni Servillo, best director and best editor for Cristiano Travaglioli), four Nastro d'Argento awards (best supporting actor for Carlo Verdone, best supporting actress for Sabrina Ferilli, best original score, and best photography for Luca Bigazzi) and two awards at the   Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (director and photography). The film is currently also a candidate at the French César for best foreign film, which results will be revealed on February 28.
