09/04/2014 - Organised by the Bergman Center on Fårö Foundation, the annual programme honouring Ingmar Bergman will take place between 23-29 June

Danish Oscar-winning director Bille August will be one of the guests at the annual Bergman Week on the island of Fårö, to introduce the screening of The Best Intentions – his 1992 feature about Swedish director Ingmar Bergman’s parents, from Bergman’s own script – which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes (and the Best Actress Award for Swedish actress Pernilla August). August is currently working on his new adaption of Russian author Vladimir Nabokov’s 1932 novel, Laughter in the Dark.

Organised annually as an homage to Bergman’s artistry, now managed by the Bergman Center on Fårö Foundation and this year taking place between 23-29 June, the Bergman Week will also welcome Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, who will stage his dance installation, FärjeScener, based on Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage (1973), on the ferry between Fårösund and Fårö.

Other international guests at the event include French director Catherine Breillat, known for her personal films on sexuality, gender conflict and sibling rivalry, and UK actor-director Richard Ayoade, who will show his most recent feature, The Double [+see also:

In collaboration with Sweden’s Göteborg International Film Festival, the Bergman Week will on 29 April unspool Norwegian director Hisham Zaman’s Letter to the King [+see also:
