Endowed with a line-up of eight titles that are ready to be screened, are still in production or are in post-production, MK2 International will be in a very strong position when it arrives at the Marché du Film, which will take place from 14-23 May 2014 as part of the 67th Cannes Festival. Indeed, the showcase includes two feature films selected for the official competition (which is, of course, the best possible springboard in order to facilitate optimal sales): the Franco-German-Swiss co-production Clouds of Sils Maria [+see also:

The team headed by Juliette Schrameck will also be carrying on with the pre-sales for the upcoming Robert Guédiguian title, Don't Tell Me the Boy Was Mad (read the news), which the outfit kicked off at the Berlinale. Produced by Agat Films, the feature will begin shooting on 14 July with a cast including Syruis Shahidi, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, Ariane Ascaride, Simon Abkarian and Serge Avédikian. Co-produced by France 3 Cinéma, the movie will be distributed in France by Diaphana.

Another jewel in the crown of MK2’s Cannes line-up is the Franco-Italian co-production Wondrous Boccaccio by renowned brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani (read the article). The shoot for this loose adaptation of the novellas contained within Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron is currently under way, and the film will star Jasmine Trinca, Kim Rossi Stuart, Michele Riondino, Paola Cortellesi, Kasia Smutniak and Lello Arena.

This attractive line-up is rounded off by three documentaries: the musical Argentina by Spaniard Carlos Saura (in production), Charlie Chaplin: The Legend of a Century by French director Frédéric Martin (in post-production) and Bande à part by Germany’s Felix von Boehm, which traces out the cinematic career path of MK2’s iconic founder, Marin Karmitz, and features stories contributed by Juliette Binoche, Christian Boltanski, Michael Haneke, Abbas Kiarostami and Agnès Varda, among others.
