A Nobel-winning film
“Fateless” a largely autobiographical novel by Hungarian writer, Imre Kertesz, won him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2002. Now the story of the 14-year-old Kertesz’s experience of being deported from his native Budapest to a Nazi concentration camp during WWII is about to be made into a film by fellow-Hungarian, Lajos Koltai, the DP of choice of directors like Istvan Szabo (Sunshine, Mephisto, Colonel Redl, Meeting Venus) and Giuseppe Tornatore (Malena and La Leggenda del Pianista sull’Oceano). Kertesz wrote the screenplay for Koltai's film and the musical score is by pre-eminent Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
The film will be backed by the Hungarian government in collaboration with several European production companies like Holland’s Kasander Film Company and made with a Euros8m budget. It is scheduled to go into production in September 2003.
