Encounters #4 BLS: French model, tax credit and digital platforms (3)

In the second part of Incontri#4, "The Digital Universe 2: The producers’ dream of getting rich," the effects digital platforms might have on daily choices in terms of production and on which requisites and funding possibilities producers should rely were raised.

Among the case studies from the meeting on co-production, organised by the Film Commission of South Tyrol- Alto Adige, was on demand production Harry Bosch for Amazon Studios and 100 Codes for Sky Germany presented by Irina Ignatiew-Lemke by Red Arrow Entertainment Group; Una mamma imperfetta, as an example of a product created for web and then bought by television and presented by Carlotta Calori from Indigo Film; Onkel Bernis Welt, presented by Tobias Gerlach from First Entertainment Group as a film produced directly onto YouTube, and finally Aquadro, presented by Mood Film producer Tommaso Arrighi as an example of film created for network distribution.

On the subject of Aquadro, Tommaso Arrighi declared that “the film was one of the most representative films of the Web Movies experiment, promoted by Rai Cinema, which brought over 27,000 clicks in two months, collected on the VOD platforms cubovision.it and raicinemachannel.it. The experiment is on-going online with the paying model for VOD and EST on chili.tv and i-tunes and as a home video, with rental and sales of the DVD.

Another success story is that of the television and web series directed by Ivan Cotroneo, Una mamma imperfetta, produced by Indigo Film and 21 with the Corriere della Sera and Rai Fiction. “It is a multi-platform project, gathering different partners together,” said Carlotta Calori from Indigo. “It has turned marketing and communications strategies on their heads. The format, thanks to its universality and novelty has attracted interest from many foreign partners and has already been sold in seven countries.”

“This meetings session reached important goals,” concluded Christiana Wertz, head of the Film Fund & Commission.  “On the one side, it facilitated the meeting of Italian companies and German companies, to increment collaboration between two neighbouring countries. And on the other side, it raised key questions – from an international perspective – for the audiovisual sector in a very current and innovative way. The combination is one we intend on repeating in future editions of the meeting.”
