- CANNES 2014: Following a successful inaugural edition, Rated SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York is bringing seven docs from the festival’s winning slate to the Cannes Doc Corner

Rated SR Socially Relevant Film Festival comes to Cannes

Following a successful inaugural edition with 55 films from 18 countries, Rated SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York, with Paris-based partner Square Mango Films, has brought seven documentaries from the Rated SR festival’s winning slate to the Cannes Film Festival Doc Corner.

Small Small Thing, directed by Jessica Vale, winner of the Rated SR feature competition, will have a theatrical release in New York on 6-12 June. Meanwhile, Not Who We Are, directed by Carol Mansour, winner of the documentary competition, is lined up for a DVD-VoD release with festival partner Cinema Libre Studio. The other titles at the Doc Corner are: Coal Rush, winner of the Rated SR Social Justice Award; Coney Island: Dreams for SaleOrphans of the GenocideFrom the Black You Make ColorStable Life; and Born in Adana. The films may be viewed at the Doc Corner library.

Submissions for the second edition, to be held on 20-26 March 2015, are now open at www.filmfreeway.com, and a special Cannes Film Festival discount is offered until 31 May, with the discount code CAN2014. Spotlight sections in 2015 include: "Middle Eastern Woman Filmmakers" and "The Forgotten Genocide: 100 years on".
