The most important filmmaker in Hong Kong, Ann Hui, will head the International Jury of Orizzonti, the section dedicated to films representative of new aesthetic and expressive trends in world cinema, at the 71st International Venice Film Festival (from 27 August to 6 September 2014).

In addition, the filmmaker will close the 2014 Venice Film Festival with her new opus,The Golden Era, a reconstruction of the life of Xiao Hong, one of the most radical and controversial writers of twentieth century Chinese literature .

Ann Hui, the first female filmmaker to obtain the Asian Lifetime Film Award (the Asian Oscar), is the author of about thirty feature films and is considered one of the foremost representatives of Hong Kong Nouvelle Vague of the seventies and eighties. Among her most successful films, A Simple Life (Coppa Volpi for actress Deanie Ip in 2011) and Summer Snow (Silver Bear for Best Actress for Josephine Siao in 1995).
