01/07/2014 - David Cameron hosts star-studded industry reception

The UK government’s continued efforts towards securing inward investment to the creative industries has received a boost with the announcement that Warner Bros is adding three new sound stages, comprising one 35,000 sq ft and two 17,000 sq ft, to their Leavesden Studios. The latest in inward investment production news is that British director David Yates has begun filming Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz that joins Warner Bros’ Pan, starring Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Amada Seyfried, which is being filmed by British filmmaker Joe Wright in the UK since April. 

Josh Berger, President, Warner Bros said, “The UK is known for world class creativity and innovation, and some of Warner Bros’ greatest successes have been produced here with British talent, at the studios we’re continuing to invest in and grow.”

Warner Bros. announcement coincides with the news of British Prime Minister David Cameron hosting a reception to champion the creative industries, attended by the likes of Helena Bonham Carter, Katherine Jenkins and Bruce Forsyth. Cameron said, “The UK has always punched well above our weight in culture and the arts. We don’t have the natural resources to rival other nations but we’ve got the cultural resources.”

Culture Secretary Sajid Javid said, “For years the UK has been at the cutting edge of the creative industries – and we want that to be the case for decades to come.”
