The Smell of Us is the first feature film created and filmed away from the US by the creator of Marfa Girl (best film at the 2012 Rome Film Festival). Defined by the director as “the portrait of a group of self-destructive skateboarders in Paris”, it arrives almost twenty years after the scandalous Kids.

Written with Mathieu Landais and starring Michael Pitt, Alex Martin and Niseema Theillaud, the movie’s protagonists are a group of kids who meet every day at the Dôme, behind the modern art museum in Paris and opposite the Eiffel Tower. Here, they can skate, play and have sex. Two of them are inseparable and connected by a complicated family life. Boredom, the temptation of easy money and anonymity offered by the Internet will however contribute to the destruction of their world.

The Smell of Us will be screened at Venice Days on Sunday 31 August.
