. The film is a remake of one of the most popular classics in Portuguese cinema, which Ribeirinho directed in 1942.

Mostly shot in the Lisbon neighbourhood of Graça, The Courtyard of the Ballads is a Stopline Films production starring actors Miguel Guilherme, César Mourão, Dânia Neto, Sara Matos, Anabela Moreira and Cristóvão Campos.

Set against the backdrop of Lisbon’s Saint Antony popular celebrations (which include parades and marriages), the script retains the essential aspects of the original romantic comedy, but Vieira’s new take has adapted the plot to take place in contemporary Lisbon.

More than simply the first remake ever made in Portugal, The Courtyard of the Ballads also constitutes the first effort in a trilogy of new versions of the comedies released during the so-called Golden Age of Portuguese Cinema (the 1930s and 1940s). Neither the next two titles nor the names of their directors have yet been announced by the production outfit.
