film profile]). After winning the Narrative Feature Jury Award at the Austin Film Festival in Texas, The Kings Surrender will be celebrating its European premiere at Torino.

Altogether, 11 German films will be presented at the gathering. Among the festival guests is Academy Award-winning director Volker Schlöndorff, who will show his works Diplomacy [+see also:

film profile] and Baal in the special “Torino Meets Berlin” programme, which is co-organised by the city of Turin and will present several events that reflect the cultural diversity of the German capital. Among the other films in this programme is the silent movie The Cabinet of Dr Caligari by Robert Wiene.

In addition, several filmmakers from Germany will be arriving in Turin with their new documentaries, such as writer/director Romuald Karmakar with Angriff auf die Demokratie – Eine Intervention, Mário Gomes and Marco Ugolini with Gemeinplätze, and René Frölke with Le Beau Danger [+see also:

film profile], in which he portrays Romanian writer Norman Manea.

Among the films selected for the “A Moveable Feast” programmeis the German co-production Jauja [+see also:

film profile] by Lisandro Alonso. The historical drama, starring Viggo Mortensen, was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Three additional German co-productions will be shown at the TorinoFilmLab, which has supported various internationally acclaimed and award-winning projects since 2008. In 2014, 11 of these films were selected by several prestigious festivals. These include Mr Kaplan [+see also:
