Latvia and the Netherlands in the limelight at the next edition of Anima in February 2015
- As well as the youth audience competitions and programmes, Anima 2015 will have a focus on Latvian and Dutch productions, and will host exported Belgian talent
Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival will take place from 13 to 22 February 2015. For the 34th time, the festival will offer the best in animation, with almost 300 films from all over the world. Exclusive previews, national and international short and feature film competitions, conferences, children's workshops and training will enrich the programme. The aim of the festival is to reach out to everyone: to a young audience, with daytime shows organised during the school holidays, but also to adults, be they animation lovers or simply curious. Anima will also offer screenings in various other Belgian cinemas in Liège, Charleroi, Mons, Namur, Ostend, Antwerp, Louvain and Ghent.
Each year, the festival also showcases animation professions, by inviting a number of professionals to discuss their day-to-day work. This year, Anima will highlight, in particular, the work of Belgian entertainers abroad. Kristien vanden Bussche, an entertainer and specialist in stop motion will come to speak about her experience in the Laïka studios and about her participation in the movie The Boxtrolls [+see also:

film profile]. Former KASK student, Marlon Nowé, today works at Walt Disney Animation Studios. He collaborated on blockbusters like Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph, Frozen and the studios' latest work: Big Hero 6. He will come to give a masterclass as part of the Futuranima Professional Days that will take place from 18 to 21 February.
Finally, Anima will put Latvian and Dutch productions in the limelight. The first is somewhere between the great virtuoso masters of puppet animations and a young generation with radically contrasting styles and concerns. The second is bursting with young talent and with studios that are always up on the latest trends, notably thanks to the creativity of the young talent coming out of animation schools.
